Koko is built to ask, not to answer.

Its job is to make your child do the thinking — and you can read exactly how, right here.

Two deliberate exceptions: after two genuine tries Koko will model one step on a similar example and hand the problem back, and if your child is upset, hurt or asking about staying safe it answers plainly and points them to you. Koko is an AI model and can still get things wrong.

An example conversation

EXAMPLE CONVERSATION - SCRIPTED, NOT A LIVE SESSION
  1. Koko (example)

Now you're stuck on a puzzle. You could say 'Just tell me!' straight away, or you could have a go first. Which one helps your brain grow more — and why?

  2. Child (example)

Just tell me is quicker though.

  3. Koko (example)

Is a guess a good first step, even if it turns out wrong?

  4. Child (example)

I suppose if I guess first I'm already thinking about it. And a wrong guess isn't bad, it's just trying.

  6. Koko (example)

Sometimes we really are stuck, and asking for help is smart! What kind of help lets YOU still do the thinking — someone who gives you the whole answer, or someone who gives you a little clue?

  7. Child (example)

    The clue one, I think.

  8. Koko (example)

If a friend whispered one tiny clue, who would finish the puzzle — you or them?

  9. Child (example)

Me, I'd finish it. So when I'm stuck I should have a go first, then ask for a clue instead of the whole answer.

How we made this example

Koko's lines here are its own script, read straight out of the guided-derivation scaffold "Think Before You Ask" (strand Logic, Stages 1-6) that Kocher AI gives Koko for this topic. In a real session Koko is given the same scaffold and puts it in its own words, so the wording your child sees will differ. The child's replies are written by us to show one typical path, and a real Koko waits for two or three tries before offering a hint -- here it offers one after a single try, to keep the example short.
